Search Engines Are Key
In this post we are learning how to increase google ranking for free, but first I want to paint a picture (predispose a relevant comparison). Creating content for a search engine is similar to creating a game for others to play. For instance, Monopoly shares some common traits with great websites. The common traits are straight forward and simple, yet when creating content can make for a challenge.
I think we can all, for the most part, agree that Monopoly is a great game as it is easy to move around the board and understand. You don’t have to read the instructions, but if you did it would explain the rules and what actions to take to get started within minutes. In fact, the rules and instructions are simple enough that nearly any age group can play. With the hundreds of pieces involved, the success of monopoly rests on how well people were able to play the game. For those of you who have played, even if you don’t like it can attest that the game is great. Why would it not be, the game has been around for over 100 years, it was professionally designed and widely accessible, provides countless hours of action packed fun, and is easy to understand as one person always navigates their way to Monopoly! The same goes with yahtzee, scrabble, dominoes ect…
Case in point: a website needs to be great. A website needs to develop content for users that is extremely useful (maybe not for everyone, but) for those who are looking to read it in order to rank in search engines. The website along with the content MUST be easy to navigate and articulate/understand. The message has to be clear, concise and consistent. Most of all it has to be legit and contextually relevant to build and establish content.
The reason why a website has to be contextually relevant is for a couple reasons. As mentioned above a great quality website has great content. And great content is what the user wants to read. So in order to publish content the user wants to read, you, myself, and the team MUST relate to one another. This is done with context, and to gather great context that readers are looking to solve we must do keyword research, add keyword phrases and search engine optimize our sites. To allow the search engine to find our website and show the searcher what they are looking for. Your website, my website, and the teams website.
So in order to be relevant, we have to know what search our content falls under. Followed by keyword research to develop keyword phrases to help search engines like google show the searcher what they are searching for. To do this lets look at the 3 types of searches that are made in a typically search engine like… Bing.com or Google.com.
- Transactional – searching for something that will lead to an action. i.e. going to a business location, joining an email list, purchasing and creating a facebook account. For example: By signing up to join my email list, you and I would make a transaction for me to send you emails for updates on new posts and books that I publish, but only if you enter you email address below.
- Navigational – searching for something that will help guide you to what you are looking for. Example: when you search a company to find the correct website. i.e. coke, fb, tesla
- Informational – non-transactional searches that lead to answers, reading is all that is required. For example: what is tesla motors stock symbol? what is the formula for click through rates? How can I make compounding gains? we can learn practically everything we need to know by conducting informational searches, but not everyone has the time. Most people have the time and money to transactionally search to find a professional to teach them, get the job done for them, or give them what they are looking for.
This is why games are similar to ranking websites, because we have rules that we must follow. When we search we are limited to what we search. Which breaks our searches down to 3 types of searches: transactional, navigational and informational. Try and create a search query that isn’t listed here, and if you are successful comment below and share with us. You just may discover the next way to search. With this said, I hope that each and everyone of you find this relevant for one of two reasons: you either have a website, or you have played monopoly :). More importantly, I hope you are able to distinguish and relate to how you use the search engines that provide us with relevant and useful queries. But most importantly, I hope you learned how to increase google ranking for free to reach your reader/user and why the search engine is key to getting the great results.
And now, I leave you with a quote from the source of this information from above. The team over at Moz is great and they really do their homework to make sure we get what we are looking for.
