Companies are scrambling to figure out the best way to utilize social media. In this ever changing landscape businesses are opting in for the use of social media. This is because, companies can use social media to their advantage, however this isn’t always the case. Partially because, most companies don’t fully understand how to implement social media strategies for their product or service. Sure, social media sounds great, but if there aren’t any efforts to improve online presence. Then most companies are damned for not improving, which puts them into a position that might actually hurt them more than the intention to help.
You see, any strategy is better than no strategy, but at some point the damage can be far worse than ever starting a social media strategy in the first place. Social media doesn’t play around, there are no rules (other than the what each platform recommends and restricts from showing their users). And even with these “general guide lines” most companies don’t make an effort to read past that. Most companies aren’t aware of the process it takes to advertise through social media, or gain organic traction that converts to sales of goods and services. Heck, they struggle with building authentic relationships.
Most companies just assume that when they put their companies information on to the platforms that is it. This is not the way, social platforms need a little bit more than where to find you. Users want DETAILS, they want STORIES, they want to FEEL as if they are the PRODUCT/SERVICE, without getting throat fucked to get it. Companies who are using social media to sell their product/service are going to have the worst outcome (not all of them, but most of them). This is because, social media users look down on companies who just shove sales pitches into their sensorium.
For example: When companies pay YouTube to advertise for them, some users like myself, mute the audio to not lose focus. Sure I might have to pay for YouTube red to avoid advertisements, but that is my point. Users don’t want to see advertisements primarily because they are sales pitches. Users want to see advertisements and other forms of content that adds value in a contextual way.
Users want to experience, the best aspects of each business. They want to see why a specific company stands out amongst the rest. They want to see what their money is going toward, when they “Invest” (buy) from you. And, the better a company can show through social media what they do with their money, how they help the world, as well as, engage with the community; the better off a company will be. The companies who can do this will tremendously gain from having a social online presence, and the ones that can’t; will struggle until they do.
All I ask for is world peace,
